Refund Status Inquiry System should provide you an estimated date for when you
will receive your refund. For more specific information about the status of

What
information must I provide when calling the department?
You must provide the following
information when calling us regarding your refund:
- Name(s),
- Address,
- Social Security number,
- Adjusted Gross Income (Line 1) for the return being discussed.
If you are calling on behalf of
someone else (this includes tax preparers inquiring about a client’s return),
you must be able to verify the information as above for the account and
you must be named as the third-party designee on the tax return or authorized
by the taxpayer on Form IL-2848, Power of Attorney.
Note: You must call us at 1 800 732-8866 if you are inquiring
about a refund on a prior year and provide the same information listed above.
What
do I do if my refund is different than what was shown on my return?
If your refund amount is different
than what is shown on your return, you will receive a notice within 7 to 10
business days explaining the difference.
How
long does it take to get my refund?
If you file your return
electronically and have your refund directly deposited into your checking or
savings account, you will receive your refund faster. If you file a paper
return, the timeframe is extended. In general, you can expect your refund to
take longer than previous years as we continue our efforts to prevent identity
theft and fraud. We want to provide the best information possible and, as we
progress into filing season, we will provide more specific timeframes when we
are able. You may use our refund inquiry application to check the status of
your current year refund.
